New Music Video.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I will now be creating a music video (for the same song) individually. I aim to create a video that focuses entirely on one character, it will be only narrative based with no performance footage of the band.

I want to create a video that tells a story, emersing the audience in the life of one person - much like the song itself. My idea is to split the video in two; one half (first verse) consists of a 'home movie' feel, in which the audience is cast as almost a second character whom Justin (from the song) silently converses and interacts with. In the second half (second verse) the audience is put in a voyeuristic role, we can only sit back and watch as Justin falls apart, spying on him as he slips into self destruction. Although this will be like a story, it won't quite be set out like one, I want the video to seem choppy and a bit rough around the edges - mirroring Justin's character as his life turns into a mess.

Magazine Advertisement.

I decided to use the same image for my magazine ad for continuity purposes, people who would see this would then go on to recognise the CD in a shop or vice versa. I want people to be able to become familiar with not only the music style, but also the general look of the band: promotion wise and visual style.

Digipak.

After having a play around with some of my old sketchbook work on photoshop I decided that this painting worked well. The perspective on the males face makes it difficult to define any particular character, reflecting on the obscure and clouded character of 'Justin' in the song. Also the reckless and abstract style of painting reflects on the 'unpolished' and slightly raw sound within the music as well as Justin's general demeanor. The composition of the painting, focusing on the shoulders up, creates a profile,  once again suggesting the subject matter of the song - a song profiling one individual and their lifestyle.

The text is subtle and simplistic, creating a nice contrast with the background image. I decided to use this font in black and white as I felt it creates a strong variation within the album artwork, it's sort of splitting it down the middle in terms of traditional and contemporary/abstract, pleasantly simple and strikingly hectic - much like Justin's character.

I've decided to design the case as a simple card wallet, for ease of production and for a more interesting style of packaging. I find these kinds of CD cases a far more intriguing and exclusive possession, I want the potential buyer to be attracted to it for it's individuality amongst the normal hard plastic cases on the music shelves - it's more like a little piece of art than a means of packaging. I also believe that the more rustic look is becoming more widely accepted and sought after in this industry, with people being persuaded to buy things they don't need because of the stylish and innovative form the product comes in. For example, despite the fact that my brother already owns the Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World dvd (below right), when I found the limited edition copy (below left) I bought it without hesitation due to the fact that it was so different and stylized, it felt like it was an essential to my DVD collection...this is the kind of reaction I want my choice of packaging to provoke.
